Project Description

Project Context :

Continental aquatic ecosystems cover less than 1% of the Earth’s surface and 0.01% of the world’s water volume, yet they host nearly 10% of all known animal species. This project aims to produce a volume synthesizing current knowledge on the hydrological, biogeochemical, and biological responses of these ecosystems to climate change. It updates and expands the 2014 edition, integrating data on trophic levels, various environments, and strategies for mitigation, restoration, and adaptation.

Project Objectives :

The new edition will include five chapters addressing the hydrological, biogeochemical, and biological effects of climate change; projected changes in ecosystems and communities; examples from French environments; and mitigation, restoration, and adaptation strategies to reduce ecosystem vulnerability. Coordinated by the DRAS (OFB) with support from experts at INRAE, universities, and EDF, the project provides an integrated and updated view of climate-related issues.

Project Results

A book on the response of continental aquatic ecosystems to climate change, combining fundamental knowledge of expected large-scale patterns with concrete examples from French ecosystems.
