Project Description

Project Context :

In order to implement index-based methods for the application of the WFD, concerning macrophytes (IBML for lakes and IBMR for rivers), the taxa identification within the different taxonomic groups is essential. Macroscopic freshwater algae are among these groups. To carry out these algal identifications, operators need resources dedicated to the characterization of taxa potentially encountered in mainland France. Some of these resources exist, though they are of varying ages. However, as taxonomy evolves over time, some of these resources are no longer sufficiently relevant.

Project Objectives :

This project aims to publish a book entitled "Identification Guide of macroscopic freshwater algae and some heterotrophic organisms. 2nd edition" (in French). This book is primarily intended for hydrobiologists in private labs and OFB laboratories working on the "macrophytes" within the framework of the WFD, both in rivers and lakes.
