Project Description
Project Context :The IPLAC, for Phytoplankton Index for Lakes, has been used routinely for more than 10 years. Nevertheless, with passing time its sensitivity and accuracy are decreasing due to taxonomic changes and the relatively low number of taxa that were used for the development of the index. Thus, it is necessary to revise this index in order for its value to better reflect the evaluated communities and in order to improve its pertinence in the evaluation of the ecological status of French lakes.
Project Objectives :The objective of this project was to propose a new version of the IPLAC index. This new version would include a higher number of contributive taxa, thus increasing its robustness and pertinence. Also, this new version could replace the actual index for the evaluation of the ecological status of French lakes during the next river basin management plans and for future reporting to the EU. This new version will be applicable at the national scale.
