Project Description

Project Context :

Lakeshores are essential for freshwater biodiversity. Located at the land-water interface, they provide crucial habitats for the life cycle of many species. However, the multiple uses to which lakes are subjected exert significant pressures and lead to the disruption of these ecotones. In France, although plenty of restoration and mitigation initiatives have been implemented, they are often insufficiently documented, and their effects remain poorly understood.

Project Objectives :

To address knowledge gaps, the Pôle R&D ECLA coordinates the national Lake Demonstration Site Network (LDSN) and provides a harmonized method for the long-term monitoring of restored lake ecosystems. This approach aims to generate robust scientific data to better assess the effects of restoration and habitat diversification actions on lakeshores. Conducted in close collaboration with stakeholders, it will ultimately enable the development of informed operational recommendations, tailored to the ecological contexts and local technical constraints of studied sites.

Project Results

Data generated by the Lake Demonstration Site Network will support the evaluation of the efficiency of a range of lakeshore restoration techniques and the analysis of post-restoration ecosystem trajectories, at both local and national scales through cross-site comparisons. The network also strengthens links among stakeholders involved in lake restoration actions, fosters the exchange of knowledge and experience, and should promote the emergence of new restoration projects across the country.
